Shake Up in Brussels: three days of Innovation, Collaboration and Dialogue on the future of Sustainable Renovation

16 Sep 2025

From 22 to 24 September 2025, the Shake Up consortium will gather in Brussels for three days of important meetings and events that will mark both the progress achieved so far and the next steps of the project.

The programme will begin on 22 September with a project meeting.  The discussions will include updates on project management, the identification of global assessment parameters and innovative approaches for resilient and energy-efficient buildings, the development of a digital EU building renovation tool, as well as the design of the project’s website and online training platform.

E-safe Final Conference

On 23 September, attention will turn to the highly anticipated final event of the e-SAFE Buildings project organised in Brussels. This event marks the culmination of five years of innovative work supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. Since its inception in 2020, the e-SAFE project has developed a pioneering deep renovation solution that combines energy efficiency, seismic resistance, circular economy principles, and a renewed architectural identity—all within a socially and financially sustainable framework.

The conference will gather EU and national policymakers, researchers, and professionals from the construction and renovation sectors to discuss how upcoming legislative and financial tools—such as the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)—can drive integrated renovation strategies across Europe. Attendees will also hear insights from e-SAFE’s pilot projects in Catania (Italy) and Timisoara and Bucharest (Romania), which have demonstrated the real-world application and impact of the project’s multidisciplinary, participatory approach.

In addition to showcasing e-SAFE’s results, the conference will feature clustering sessions with other projects focused on energy efficiency, seismic safety, and environmental sustainability—offering a unique platform to exchange best practices, build synergies, and explore replication potential. Among the speakers will be Mehtap KUMDAKCI CAN, coordinator of Shake Up, and Simona BIANCHI, representative of the MULTICARE project and also partner in Shake Up. All Shake Up partners will also be present at the event, strengthening the synergies between the two projects.

Dialogue with EU institutions: bringing Shake Up’s vision to the heart of Europe

The three-day programme will conclude on 24 September with a visit to the European Commission at the Charlemagne Building. This closing moment will offer partners the chance to connect directly with EU institutions and reflect on the project’s role in the broader policy context.
