Brussels, 24 September 2025 – The Shake Up project concluded a three-day programme in Brussels with a visit to the European Commission at the Charlemagne Building, strengthening its dialogue with EU institutions and situating the project firmly within the European policy context.
The visit offered consortium partners direct engagement with the European Commission, providing insights into institutional responsibilities, funding opportunities, and forthcoming calls. Participants also attended high-level presentations addressing key challenges for the built environment: the impact of climate change on buildings, the urgent need for GHG reduction and carbon removals, and evolving energy efficiency regulations that underpin Europe’s climate adaptation strategies.
By advancing holistic approaches to buildings that are both low-carbon and seismically resilient, the Shake Up project contributes directly to the EU’s sustainability and resilience objectives. The project’s work is designed to deliver actionable knowledge, support policymaking, and promote the development of resilience-based strategies across Europe.
The Brussels programme reaffirmed the value of close cooperation among partners and with EU institutions. The consortium brings together expertise from ministries, research organisations, universities, and private actors, ensuring a comprehensive and multidisciplinary response to the challenges of climate change and structural resilience.
In this way, the Shake Up project, through the strong collaboration of its partners, is working to advance a sustainable, safe, and resilient built environment across Europe.
